6 - England through the Tournament Tony Hyams: England v. France at Wembley

As an 8 year old my father took me to see the England group match against France. We sat in block F and this was my first visit ever to Wembley. Walking along Wembley Way with the supporters was an experience to behold but I remember entering the stadium and recalling the noise and the colour set off by the lush green grass of the pitch which had been coated by the rain.

The game was memorable for the 2-0 win and Jimmy Greaves being injured but as a youngster the noise, colour and sheer size of Wembley have long remained in my memory even after numerous events that I have since attended at the old and new Stadiums.
