My husband and I married in 1964, worked full time and had busy, busy lives. As we had a mortgage and were pretty hard up, having a TV was not a priority so we didn't have one in 1966. (In fact we didn't get one until 1969, and that was a BBC1 only cast off from my aunt, who finally upgraded to a model to get all 3 available channels) so I listened to the match on the radio in Potters Bar.
The thing that really puzzles me now, is why I didn't go round to my parents' house to watch it on their TV. I was a keen Tottenham fan at the time but my husband, despite growing up in Tottenham, was rugby, not a football fan.
I remember my mum and my aunt came to our house to listen with me but my husband was busy in his workroom all afternoon and not a bit interested. The 3 of us got so excited and when England finally won, I rushed upstairs to tell my husband the result but he really couldn't see what all the fuss was about. I do remember he gave me a hug and said he was pleased I was happy but that was it.
