12 - Following the Final at home Steve Niblock: watching the Final at home

I was 14 yrs old at the time and had attended some World Cup games at Goodison Park watching Brazil and Portugal.

I watched the final at home with my dad and some of my brothers & sister and remember distinctly my father jumping up and smashing his head on the lampshade in the middle of our lounge breaking the fitting when Geoff Hurst scored his third goal.

My dad was a big Liverpool fan and one of his idols was Roger Hunt who played in the game. I was 8 yrs old when he took me to my first game at Anfield to see Roger Hunt, Jimmy Melia, Gordon Milne etc.

I will never forget that day and as soon as the game finished I went out onto the green area at the front of our house and played football with all the other lads in our road. We all tried to emulate Sir Geoff and enjoyed that feeling for a number of years after that.
