9 - Memorabilia Marion Cherry: World Cup Willie money box

I remember fondly as a very young child watching the game with my father, who as a West Ham supporter was already a huge Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst fan. The look on Bobby Moore's face as he held up the cup showed a pride that was reflected in my own joy at receiving a World Cup Willie money box. The treasured mascot sat on top of my small wardrobe smiling down at me for some time, gaining weight as I slowly filled it with coins; until the day that was, when my wardrobe wobbled as I opened one of its doors and World Cup Willie toppled over, falling, the mascot hit me on the forehead and then fell to its fate on to the floor. I was inconsolable not at the pain of the egg shaped lump which immediately formed on my forehead, but at the unrecognisable pieces of my World Cup Willie money box that lay scattered on my bedroom carpet.

Oh the memories...
