10 - Attending the World Cup Final Barry Carpenter: a half-price ticket from the touts

My father, Dennis Carpenter worked as an engineer for Redifussion Television (Later LWT/ITV) at their Wembley TV studios.

On the day of the World Cup Final he was asked to go in to work "in case anything broke down" while the match was being shown live on TV. He realised he was not needed, so strolled over to the ground just before kick-off. There he found touts selling tickets - but they were so desperate to get into the ground themselves, they were selling them for half face value.

Hence my Dad ended up seeing the World Cup final live!
