10 - Attending the World Cup Final Ron Rogers: 1964, 1965 and 1966, watching West Ham and England at Wembley

Now 69 years of age, one of the highlights of my life was seeing all the 1966 World Cup matches from a seat in Wembley stadium.

It completed 3 incredible Wembley years as a West Ham fan growing up in Green Street, Upton Park above & behind my father's newsagents shop near the Boleyn stadium. Dad had several Hammers players as contacts and easily arranged tickets for West Ham's '64 Cup Final win, '65 European Cup Winners Cup win and, of course, the '66 World Cup.

Dad & I attended all England's World Cup games up to the final together.
For the final, he agreed to get another ticket for himself so that I could take my fiancée who later became my first (!) wife. Our 2 children (now both parents & one a grandparent) are naturally strong West Ham & England football followers. My second marriage is 19 years young and my lovely wife surprised me with a wonderful anniversary present - she took me to the 50 years on celebration of the '66 World Cup victory held at the Wembley Arena where I was able to talk briefly to Sir Bobby Charlton and be given a replica programme of the match (I had lost all my World Cup mementoes including a World Cup Willy! in a house move), so was delighted & very moved emotionally by the whole televised occasion stirring wonderful memories.
Mooro, Hursty & Martin will always be in my head and heart along will all my wonderful memories of Wembley in '64, '65 & 66!!!
As an England fan, keen West Ham fan and ex chairman of Tunbridge Wells FC (Vase finalists) I have been to the 'new' Wembley since '66 on many occasions.
Although it's always a thrill to go there, my mind always goes back to those 60s memories and especially to when my team through the skipper, and goal scorers helped England beat West Germany to lift the Jules Rimet Trophy!
