17 - Working on the day of the Final Nina Clark RGN: working in a cardiac ward on the day of the Final

I was a student nurse at Scarborough General Hospital and in charge for the first time on a male medical ward. There were about 6 patients in a special area at the head of the ward who had suffered heart attacks and they wanted to watch the match on TV.

I allowed this but then it got to extra time and I had to decide whether the excitement might be too much for these gentlemen who were all attached to heart monitor machines. I decided to allow it but spent the whole of extra time going from bed to bed watching for any signs that it was too stressful.

Thankfully they all were OK and pleased to see England win. I was more thankful than any of them!
