14 - Following the Final on Holiday A Collection of holiday memories

I was 10 years old and on holiday in Paignton, Devon at the Pontins Holiday Camp. They had 2 TV rooms, one for BBC and one for ITV. Me and my holiday mates had great fun watching it in one room, then legging it to the other one, and then back and forward and so on. Black and White TVs, about 28" screens, and both rooms packed with everyone craning their necks to get a better view. Us kids were all right though, we were allowed to sit at the front on the floor. Dave Boden

We were on holiday in Bude, Cornwall. My dad and all the men were in the TV room watching the Final, me and my brothers could not see as I was 10 at the time. The man who ran the sweet shop ran across to watch the football and left the sweet shop open, well we couldn't see the football so we helped ourselves to the sweets, happy days. Rob Frost

The 30th of July 1966 was my 14th birthday.I was in Blackpool on holiday with my parents, we watched the final in our holiday flat. When England scored (the Geoff Hurst goal, 2nd goal in extra goal) I was laid on a bed watching. I jumped up, kicked the bed post and ended up crying with the pain and thinking the goal had been disallowed. However, it turned out well in the end. I still tell everyone my only claim to fame is that ENGLAND WON THE WORLD CUP ON MY 14th BIRTHDAY! Paul Swain
