14 - Following the Final on Holiday Richard Arthurs: listening on a ferry to France

A few of us Scout Leaders were taking a group of scouts for a summer camp in Norway, travelling by ferry to France then train overland and ferry again.

We left on the day of the match and were on the ferry to France on which someone had a small transistor radio. By the time we reached France the reception had died but we heard that England had won, but we thought only 3 - 2, not hearing the 4th goal had been scored.

The lads sang all the football songs including World Cup Willie, all the way across Europe including through Germany!

It wasn't until we reached Copenhagen that we saw the newspapers and saw we had won 4 - 2
