15 - Watching the Final in Germany Peter Rawson: watching in Remscheid

At the time of the World Cup final, I was 23 and my girlfriend 19, we were on holiday in Remscheid, near Cologne, West Germany. We were in a rented house and had no TV. With two others we walked along the suburban street and knocked on the door of a house that had a TV which we could see through the window. We explained that we would really like to see the match and were welcomed in, by a middle aged couple, very friendly fashion.

During the match they gave us drinks and nibbles as we occupied their sofa. We thanked them profusely as the match ended, and as we left them we felt somewhat embarrassed that we had enjoyed their hospitality and got over-excited at the result!
